i'm delayed in posting cause:
1) i wanted the post about the american cancer society donation to be the most recent.
2) i've been incredibly busy
3) i have writer's block
4) i'm hungover
5) i'm lazy
take your pick of excuses; they're all fairly lame.
to sum up the last couple of weeks: i did go to the boot camp class (twice now) which thoroughly kicked my butt. its held outside at 6am on the beach (when its just starting to heat up here). thought it was kind of weird that there were so many people at the beach at that hour. honestly, the beach was packed! at 6am. people playing volleyball; lots of families. personally, i think that's an ungodly hour to be awake, much less be working out or playing volleyball. corey, the buff aussie tyrant running the class, had us doing sit-ups and push ups in the sand -- i'm still finding sand in inappropriate places.
nick, jeff's former boss (and my birthday pal), finally departed a.d. last week and my liver is pretty ecstatic that he's gone.
last weekend, jeff and stayed at the 'aloft' hotel here in a.d. just to get away from the apartment for a bit. we figured it would be nice to hang around the pool (since there's not one here in our building) and do a pub crawl through the bars and restaurants there. we sort of finalized our dublin itinerary while sitting in the lobby bar, sipped a few umbrella drinks at the splash bar (well, i did anyway) and had sushi at 'relax@12' - a trendy place where no one was over 40 except us.
while at the pool, i ordered jeff to get a picture of the white out going on, but he disobeyed and only got a few pics of me in a swimsuit (which i'm not posting) and a shot of the pool area, where you can sort of tell we were having a vicious sand storm. was kind of a crappy day to have a lay-by at the pool, but it was better than being trapped in the apartment.
on independence day, jeff and i met some of his co-workers at a place called 'stars 'n bars' on yas island (that's about as american as it gets here). it was fairly low-key; no fireworks or anything and a REALLY bad band singing fleetwood mac and beatles tunes. i don't think they're big on celebrating the united states' independence in the middle east.
i've found a new girlfriend to hang out with, celeste from canada via the u.k. she's a semi-reluctant lady-of-leisure like me and lives in a huge villa (with a pool) in a part of town called 'khalifa city a'. all my other friends have already participated in the mass exodus from abu dhabi that has been going on since early june. seriously, everyone has gone 'on-holiday' and the place has emptied out.
so, other than working out and hanging out, not many other riveting activities have occurred - went to see 'bad teacher'; got a haircut; downloaded (illegally) and watched 'bridesmaids'; took the wrong bus and wound up in the middle of nowhere; smelled someone smoking marijuana; joined a gym, etc.
tomorrow at 2am, we leave for dublin to meet audrey and madi. hopefully there will be a blog posting sooner than later with fabulous stories and photos of the girls drinking guiness and singing gaelic tunes.
xoxoxo
