i'm back in abu dhabi and conscious, so i figured it was time to write about my tedious goings-on.
after a long (and four hour delayed) flight from dallas to germany, i missed my connection and spent 11 hours in the frankfurt airport. sure, i probably should have procured a ride into the city, but i was a bit muddled and slightly concerned about falling asleep on a curb and being mistaken for a homeless person.
so, after having a breakdown outside the etihad lounge and crying at the girl who said they were closed for the next 9 hours, i located the sky lounge where for a ridiculous fee, i parked my tired self and became a semi-permanent fixture on one of their incredibly uncomfortable chairs. for an additional 6 euros, they let me take a shower.
fortunately, the 6 hour trip from germany to the uae was uneventful - i watched 'the dilemma' (don't waste two hours on this movie - what has happened to vince vaughn?) finally after 36 hours of travel, i arrived in abu dhabi bright and early friday morning at 6:30 and was met by jeff and a mocha frappuchino.
friday was a bust and i collapsed into a coma. but one can only sleep so long (and jeff needed sustenance - burger, scotch, cigar), so we caught a quick ride to the park rotana to check out cooper's bar. cooper's has a sign out front that nationals are not welcome. i kind of like this restriction; good to know that there's a place ex-pats can go without being judged for their form of dress or gawked at by the locals. here's a picture of me and their jack daniels statue - not sure why they have this though. looks like i'm blowing in his ear, right?
also, a few of my friends in dallas said it doesn't look like anyone actually lives in abu dhabi cause i never take pics of the crowds or the occasional mayhem on the streets. here's a pic of the street outside of our apartment. i know this doesn't truly depict mayhem, but i'll take more soon so you all can get a better idea.
iphone issue update: it works now!!!! this makes me incredibly ecstatic. while in texas, i bought what is called a gevey sim card which is supposed to unlock the controlling hand of at&t. and after many tries, it did. so, i have a new phone number. email me off line if you want it. so excited; i feel like i've joined the 21st century.
they've turned on the heat here - its already 113 degrees. maybe i can just sweat off the calories by sitting outside.
alright, its time for me to get off my butt and do something, like work out. i didn't exercise at all while in dallas (and 3 minutes of wii boxing doesn't really count - although after doing that, it felt like i had been hit by a truck). back to the routine of my daily pitiful performance on the treadmill and hot, frustrating trips to the grocery store. i'm making cake balls this week; hopefully they'll be as pretty as wendy's. wendy's look professional, while mine look like a 3 year old was let loose in the kitchen.
toodles friends,
tricia
